Hip hop was originally composed of two elements: rapping and Djing. Hip hop was started in New York City when DJ's would play the percussion breaks from funk and disco songs. Later and MC would begin speaking and over the break beats by giving the DJ his props. In 1979 hip hop started to become mainstream. Hip Hop has splintered into many different forms, including, Bass, Christian Rap, East Coast, Experimental Rap, Gangsta & Hardcore, International Rap, Latin Rap, Old School, Pop Rap, Rap Rock, Southern Rap, and West Coast.
